ADACHI MUSEUM
Set in a beautiful natural environment, Adachi Museum of Art is well known for both its superb Japanese gardens and its collection of Modern Japanese painting, comprising approximately 1,500 of the country's most highly regarded paintings produced after the Meiji period and centering on the works of Yokoyama Taikan. We welcome your visit to the museum and hope you receive as much pleasure from its beauty as we do.

YUSHIEN
We have the magnificent Adachi Museum gardens, which are second to none. The charming Yushien on Daikon Island is also most outstanding. These gardens are made to show us a tiny universe in the scenery of Japan. They often are supposed to represent the Buddhist heaven (Sumeru) Shumisen. Islands are made using rocks in seas of sand and in ponds. It is thought that this was a result of the passage of early Japanese through the inland sea and the impression the islands gave them. This further proves my ideas on Yamataikoku.

IZUMO TAISHA
The greatest shrine in Japan is often said to be Ise Shrine. That shrine is not as old as the one in Izumo Taisha, however, and it seems like a case of one-upmanship. Izumo Taisha is credited with being the oldest shrine using Taisha architecture in Japan, and is over 1200 years old. It is located in the town of Taisha in Shimane Prefecture of the Sanin Area. The age of Taisha was not all spent as a Shinto shrine. During the age of Susanoo, it was a Shaman shrine as well, worshipping the mountain behind the shrine. From that viewpoint it is over 1500 years old, that we know of, and probably much older.

SHIMANE MUSEUM OF ANCIENT IZUMO
In Taisha Town, part of Izumo City, you can find Izumo Grand Shrine. Described by Koizumi Yakumo (Lafcadio Hearn), who dedicated himself to studying Japanese culture, as "the Capital of the Gods" or "the oldest shrine of the ancient Japanese Shinto religion," it stands on a site next to the Shimane Museum of Ancient Izumo.

HINOMISAKI LIGHTHOUSE
Izumo Hinomisaki lighthouse stands 43.65 meters high near Hinomisaki Shrine. It is the highest stone masonry lighthouse in Japan and registered among the top 100 historic lighthouses of the world. You will be able to enjoy the panoramic view of the Japan Sea from the top of the lighthouse. The entrance fee is 200 yen.
